How to Read a Used Luxury Car's Service History Like a Pro

A perfect paint job can hide a poor maintenance record. The service history tells you how a car has actually been cared for — and whether it is worth your money.

Start With the VIN

Every car tells a story through its vehicle identification number. Run the VIN through reputable history services to verify mileage, ownership and accident records before you even view the car.

Read the Service Logs

Look for consistent, timestamped entries that match the mileage. Gaps are a red flag. For luxury cars, check that major services were performed by the dealer or an approved specialist.

  • Oil changes at the correct intervals
  • Major service milestones documented
  • No unexplained gaps in the schedule

Watch for Warning Signs

Beware of freshly reset service lights, hand-written logs without stamps, and sellers who cannot produce any documentation at all. A luxury car with no history is a risk you do not need to take.

  • Repeated early tyre or brake replacements
  • Electrical fixes without explanation
  • Mismatched paperwork across owners
